I’m Dakota Collins, a tough talking, eye patch wearing, workaholic photography student. Why am I important? Well, maybe because I get to spend an entire month with Vicious, only the sickest indie rock band out there.
You see, I needed a subject for my Spring Showcase introspective in order to graduate. During a chance encounter at a club I’d been sent to cover for the Daily Gossip, our ironically named college paper, the features writer I usually teamed up with introduced me to the band—by accident, I might add. It involved a run in with a scary, bald bodyguard. Anyway, long story short, I signed a contract to take pictures of Vicious.
I should have known their handsome yet way too serious for his own good bassist, Luka Visraya, wouldn't be able to keep his hands to himself. He’s gorgeous and all, but the way he smiles spelled trouble with a capital L. I’m in for a long month with him around.
Crazy shit happens and then some. So, if you want the skinny on Vicious and the events revolving around my stay at Lunar Manor, read my story.

Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the
next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't
going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate
wandered into the Literature department of her university and never
looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says
to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she
took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to
be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered?

"I stepped out of the cab, camera in hand, and faced Sacrifice." (page 1, line 1)
I adored Taste, Evangelista's novel about zombies and the human girl who found her way into their world. Well, Savor brings back some of those characters - only now they're in a rock band, topping the charts, but still keeping secrets. That being said, it isn't necessary to read Taste to enjoy Savor.
Savor is told from the perspective of the eye patch wearing, tell it like she sees it, passionate Dakota. We follow her as she falls down the rabbit hole, falls into the strange, crazy, addictive world that is Vicious. I thought she was a very original character, I mean, she's got an eye patch, but she's so interesting and admirable. I also thought it was fabulous the way Evangelista used photography, not only for what it means to Dakota, but for a way to show the readers the world and how through Dakota's camera we see who the characters really are deep inside.
I loved seeing all the characters from Taste, Dray, the mad scientist, fabulous Phoenix, t-shirt repellant Demetri, fashion crazed Yana and moody Luka. I had a soft spot in my heart for Luka and was excited to see more of him. He's a complicated guy and in some ways I feel like I understand him even less now. Through Dakota's eyes we get to see his many facets - especially the sexy side as Dakota and Luka share hungry looks and covert touches.
There was a lot to keep me turning the pages, dying to know what happens next. Along with the drama and romance, there's a bit of mystery, what's up with Dakota's dreams? Exactly what happened to her? and an element of the paranormal.
And the ending? Huh? What just happened? Phoenix and ? What in the world is going on? And when is book two, Relish, releasing?
