Waiting on Wednesday (135) Bounty (Colorado Mountain #7) by Kristen Ashley

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, created by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week I'm waiting on:
Bounty (Colorado Mountain, #7)
Justice Lonesome has enjoyed a life of bounty.

Even so, she’s inherited the curse of the Lonesome. A poet’s soul. Which means she’s still searching for something. Searching for peace. Searching for the less…that’s more.

And when the foundation of her life is pulled out from under her, grieving, she goes to the mountains to find her oasis. She hits Carnal, Colorado and decides to stay.

Deke Hightower lost everything at the age of two. He lost it again at fifteen. His life has not been about bounty. It’s been about learning to live with less, because there’s no way to get more.

Deke’s also watched all his friends go down to the women who gave them what they needed. He wants that for himself. But he knows that search isn’t going to be easy because he’s a rider. His home is the road. That’s the only place he can breathe. And the woman who takes her place at his side has to do it sitting on the back of his bike.

When Deke meets Justice, he knows she’s not that woman. She’s cute. She’s sweet. And she’s into him, but she’s got it all and Deke knows he won’t fit into that. So he holds her at arm’s length. Establishes boundaries. And Justice will take it because she wants Deke any way he’ll let her have him.

But when Justice finds herself a pawn in a dangerous game, Deke makes a decision.

When he does, he has no idea he’s just opened himself up to bounty. (Blurb via Goodreads)

{Rating} 4/5 - I really liked it!
{Review}
I'm conflicted. I gave Walk Through Fire four stars, meaning I really liked it and I did. I also hated it. I cried my way through most of it. The first third was agonizing, the pain of now, the flashbacks to happy times but knowing it would end, and end badly. It does get better, the joy of rediscovery, but it's also bittersweet. Rebuilding is emotional, they've changed, experienced things, but ultimately makes them stronger.

I think Millie was one of the most loving, self-sacrificing, confused girls I've ever met. She sacrifices everything, is living this sad little half life, and when we finally find out why she did what she did I was both awed at her sacrifice, and knowing Millie, the depth of her love, it is exactly what she'd do. I also wanted to smack her up side the head - hard - because she was also ridiculously stupid. I liked her endless capacity of love, her generous spirit, and was happy to see her finally get her happily ever after.
I hated Logan. A lot. For quite a while. But once we see his point of view it's hard not to understand his pain too. And then seeing Logan with his kids, with his brothers, when he's sweet and tender with Millie, I liked what I saw. But he's also hot headed, quick to act - and overreact.

Full of Kristen Ashley's trademark alpha males and sassy, independent women with drama and passion on every page. If you're a fan of the Chaos series or Kristen Ashley you won't be disappointed.

{eARC Romance Review} Ride Steady (Chaos #3) by Kristen Ashley

Ride Steady (Chaos, #3)

Ride Steady (Chaos #3) by

The ride of her life . . . Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy---until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .
In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa---or ride away forever . . .

{Rating} 5/5 - I loved it!

{Review}

I loved Ride Steady. Within the first few pages I was completely invested in Joker and Carissa's lives and could not put the book down.

Carissa is a sweet girl. She's been beaten down by life - it's still beating on her - but she hasn't lost that sweetness. She's kind, caring, generous, devoted - I absolutely adored her little guy Travis - and fierce when it comes to people she loves.

Joker is all kinds of awesome. He's smart, talented, hard, and just as fierce. He had life beat him down too, survived a horrific childhood, but he found his way out and found his way to a good life, a brotherhood and the career he'd always wanted. He's determined to keep his distance from Carissa but life keeps putting her in his path and soon he can't help but give in. I loved seeing him be sweet and protective and loving towards not only Carissa but Travis.

I liked the relationship between Carissa and Joker - after he gets over being a jerk (which is understandable once you get to know him). They're careful with each other, protective of each other and their relationship. It's not an easy path for them, Joker doesn't think he deserves her, Carissa has an evil ex making her life difficult, and there are issues in Chaos, but everything they have to survive makes their happily ever after so much sweeter.

{Rating} 4/5 - I really liked it!

{Review}
"My eyes opened and I saw dark." (page 1, line 1)
Zara and Ham fight hard. They love hard. It's a long road to love, a hard, full out battle to a happily ever after. I'm not usually a big fan of reunited lovers story but from the very first page Kristen Ashley immersed me in the history, passion and pain between Zara and Ham. I couldn't put Jagged down until I knew how Zara and Ham's story ended. There's hot sex, ex drama, a lot of rehashing the past, family drama, an ex murderer and a fierce love story.

Ham is a total alpha male. He's controlling yes, but it comes from a place of love, a desire for Zara to be safe, secure, protected and happy. He messes up but he loves fiercely and completely. But  Ham? Zara's a sassy girl and that's the best nickname she could come up with? Definitely not sexy.

Zara has been through hell, the hows and whys of it are slowly revealed, but she never gives up. She keeps fighting as life kicks her knees out from her over and over again. She's always loved Ham, knew he was her forever, but he didn't feel the same way. Years passed and things changed and now Ham's back and she's still in love with him.
