{YA Review} Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram

An accident that should end in tragedy instead gives seventeen-year-old Jamie Baker a slew of uncontrollable superhuman abilities. To keep her secret safe Jamie socially exiles herself, earning the title of Rocklin High's resident ice queen. But during a supercharged encounter with star quarterback Ryan Miller she literally kisses anonymity goodbye. Now the annoyingly irresistible Ryan will stop at nothing to melt the heart of the ice queen and find out what makes her so special. Unfortunately, Ryan is not the only person on to her secret. Will Jamie learn to contain her unstable powers before being discovered by the media or turned into a government lab rat? More importantly, can she throw Ryan Miller off her trail before falling in love with him? (Blurb via Goodreads)

{Rating} 5/5 - I loved it!

"Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower on a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss." (page 1, line1)
A story about a teen girl with superpowers? Yes please!

Jamie's been through a lot. Her entire life changed and she's had to try to adjust to a new normal. A normal that makes her a danger to everyone around her and in response, she's closed herself off to everyone. It's easy to understand why she feels the need to isolate herself, to keep herself from letting anyone in, from letting Ryan get close, but it's hard to read because she is such a likable character.

I loved Ryan. He's sweet and kind and a really good guy. He's intrigued by Jamie and pushes his way into her life by being caring and helpful. And the kissing. Oh, the kissing! (The addition of scenes written from Ryan's POV were perfect!)

There was a great mix of action, teenage angst, growing pains, romance, and heartbreak. The story was fast paced, the dialog snappy. I'm excited to read the next book, More Than Jamie Baker, and anything else by Kelly Oram.
