After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy step-mother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him. "Oklahoma was a lot prettier when it was blurring out of sight." (page 1, line 1)Holy emotional roller coaster! Quinn sends us up, down and around but what a ride it is. Kylie is a multifaceted character; she's the ingenue, naive and trusting while at other times she's a hardass who refuses to be intimidated (the Players Club scene anyone?). Her life hasn't been easy and it doesn't get any easier when all her dreams start to come true, especially when she meets Trace. Trace is a brooding, self-destructive ass. But he's more than we first see. More importantly he's redeemable, and we get to see his growth throughout the book.
It's definitely not love at first sight when Kylie and Trace meet, it's antagonism and downright dislike. They're also attracted to each other, they've got chemistry in spades. On the downside, they can also hurt each other like no one else, and they do, it's not all hearts and roses.
I liked Quinn's writing style, her pacing, the way she held my attention until the very last page. I'm not even a country music fan and I still loved this story, that's how great it is. Kylie and Trace's story continues in Girl on Tour, which I already purchased and can't wait to start reading!
I'm so glad its not love at first sight :D It sounds like a good read. i really like how true to life this sounds!
