Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Katie Ashley revs up the danger and sexual tension in her brand-new Vicious Cycle romance series.

Deacon Malloy’s life is dedicated to the Hells Raiders motorcycle club. Tough, hard, and fast with his fists, he serves the group as sergeant at arms. But his devil-may-care approach to life is thrown for a loop when the five-year-old daughter he never knew existed lands on the club steps.

Alexandra Evans is devoted to all her students—but there’s always been something about Willow Malloy that tugs at her heart. There’s an aura of sadness about her, a girl in need of all the love Alexandra can give. When Willow stops coming to school, Alexandra’s search leads to a clubhouse full of bikers…and a father hell-bent on keeping his daughter always within sight.

The moment Deacon sees Alexandra, he has to have her in his bed—and he’s never met a woman yet who couldn’t be persuaded. No matter how attracted she is to Deacon, Alexandra refuses to be just another conquest. But it’s Deacon himself who could be seduced—into a brighter future for himself, his daughter, and the woman he’s falling for against all odds.

Excerpt

As I entered the door, I took a deep breath to try and still my out-of-control nerves. Smoke hung heavy in the air, stinging my eyes and causing me to cough. Several men in leather biker cuts lounged on stools at the bar, nursing beers. Across from me, a heated pool game was taking place.
I took a few steps inside and then froze. “Are you lost, darlin’?” a big busted woman in a halter top asked.
“Uh…I’m looking for David Malloy,” I said.
Two men at the pool table whirled around. The shorter of the two, a tough but cute looking blond, cocked his head curiously at me. But then the moment my gaze locked on the other man, I knew he was Willow’s father. They had the same dark hair, soulful dark eyes, and heart-shaped face. David, however, had dark scruff covering his face. Although he was Rev’s brother, I didn’t see any resemblance between the two. Although he was shorter and slightly less built, David was just as good-looking as Rev. “Mr. Malloy?” I questioned, as I closed the distance between us.
He tossed the pool stick on the table. Taking a long drag on his cigarette, he then stubbed it out in an ashtray on the table. “What do you want?” he demanded.
Without even glancing around the room, I knew that every eye in the place was on us. “I really need to speak with you for a moment.”
His dark eyes narrowed as they raked over my body. Then the next thing I knew, he leapt at me, knocking me back into the wall. One of his hands came to grip my throat while his body pinned me in place. Fear like I had never known overwhelmed me, sending my heartbeat drumming wildly in my ears. It was so loud it felt like a cannon blast going off around me. “Please,” I murmured.
David glared at me as his thumb pressed harder into my throat. “They’re really falling down on their job at the academy.”
“E-Excuse m-me?” I stammered.
With a smirk, he replied, “Don’t they train you ATF bitches to hide your fear a little better? I mean, you’re practically pissing your pants right now, not to mention your heart is beating ninety to nothing.”
I shook my head slowly back and forth as I tried processing his words. “ATF? I don’t understand.”
He rolled his eyes. “A white-bred piece of ass comes waltzing into my clubhouse wanting to talk to me alone. It doesn’t take a fucking genius to realize you’re a Fed.”
A Fed? It took me a moment to process what he meant. Holy shit, he thought I worked for the government as an agent of some sort. Quickly, I replied, “No, I’m not.”
A voice came from him. “Deacon, man, you’re gonna get your ass jacked up even further for this.”
Glancing over his shoulder, Deacon said to the young, blond haired man, “Stay out of this, Bishop.”
Bishop held up his hands. “Fine. It’s your fucking funeral.”
David’s hand slid down my throat to the buttons on my dress. Glancing over his shoulder at the others, he questioned, “What do you bet she’s wired up under her tits?”
When his hands started to rip open my dress, I couldn’t hold back my scream. “No, stop! I’m not who you think I am. I swear!” I protested.
“Then just who the hell are you?” he demanded.
Before I could answer, a tiny voice came from behind us. “Miss Alex?”
The sound of Willow’s voice caused David to release his hold on my dress, but his body still kept me pinned to the wall. At that same moment, Rev entered the clubhouse. When he saw me, his eyes bulged, and he broke into a run to reach us. Grabbing David’s shoulders, he slung him away from me. “For fuck’s sake, Deacon, what the hell are you doing?”
“I’m giving this undercover ATF bitch what she deserves,” Deacon spat, taking a step back toward me.
“Christ, she’s not ATF,” Rev countered.
“Oh, then who the hell is she?”
“She’s my teacher…and my friend,” Willow answered in a small voice.

Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist!
Release Date: 05/18/15

Summary from Goodreads:
From bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis, writing as Kay Marie, comes a new adult romantic comedy about a girl who'll soon discover that some secrets can't be kept forever, especially those of the heart.

My name is Skylar Quinn, I just moved to New York with my best friend Bridget, and I have a confession. Well, more than one. Okay, quite a few really. Fine, here goes!

Confession #1: I'm a sex columnist. Hold on, that's not really the confession. You see, I'm sort of a virgin...sex columnist.

Confession #2: I'm in love with Bridget's older brother, Oliver. No—I was. No—I am. Wait, was? Am? Crap.

Confession #3: I've been avoiding Oliver for four years. Or I was until today, because he just moved in. Yes, you read that correctly. He's my new roommate. So that night we've both been pretending never happened, well, we might not be able to keep it a secret any longer.

And trust me, this is only the beginning.

Author Interview!

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi everyone! I’m Kay Marie, Kaitlyn Davis, and just Kaitlyn to my friends :) Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist! is my first contemporary romance and it’s the first book written by my alter-ego pseudonym Kay Marie! I have three young adult fantasy/paranormal series written under the name Kaitlyn Davis—Midnight Fire, A Dance of Dragons, and Once Upon A Curse!

I’ve always been one for a great romantic comedy—anything by Sophie Kinsella or Meg Cabot, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, You’ve Got Mail, Pretty Woman, Ever After, Failure to Launch, and many many more! I love a great happily ever after, and love it even more if the journey to get there makes me laugh out loud!

2. In five words or less, please describe your romance writing style.

Sweet, Steamy, Funny, Real, and HEA :) I cheated a little on the last one, but we all love a happy ending, right?!

3. Where do you get your ideas?

Anywhere and everywhere! I have a running list of crazy ideas in the notes section of my cell phone, and I’m constantly updating it! For my young adult fantasies, a lot of my ideas come from dreams or quotes or artwork I’ve found online. But for my contemporary romance, many more of the ideas were inspired by real life! My friends will definitely be able to call me out on a few scenes that I might have exaggerated just a bit :)

4. So some of your ideas are based on real life experiences? Can you tell us which ones?

Well, I don’t want to give too much away, but if you read Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist! there’s a scene that takes place on a yacht cruising the Hudson River that was inspired by a real Halloween party I went to! Let’s just say a friend of mine has great connections, and it was still one of the most surreal nights of my life—once in a lifetime for sure!

There’s also a little comment about a girl being asked out via post-it note, and that really happened to one of my best friends :) Left on the laundry machine in our apartment building!

5. What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

Well, the last few chapters were definitely the most fun, but I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll go with a close second!

Before I started working on Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist!, I had just finished the second book in my YA epic fantasy series. I’d spent weeks writing some end of the world, dark and dire situations, so I had the best time writing the funny parts of my contemporary romance! Light and full of laughter—my favorite! And if you read it, one scene that stands out is the one where Skylar tests out some dating apps for first time :) Let’s just say it doesn’t quite go as planned…

6. Do you ever struggle against the label of romance novels being fluff, i.e. not “real” literature?

Why bother?! Everything I write is considered “fluff” by the literary elite—young adult and romance—but that’s what I love! And that’s what my fans love and what millions of other readers love, too. And that’s “real” enough for me!

Besides, just because something is action packed or full of romance, doesn’t mean there aren’t deeper issues at hand. Every one of my main characters is struggling inside in one way or another, that’s what makes them human and what makes them real. Skye for example, is battling her self-confidence, an unrequited love, and struggles with a father who was never present in her life. The fact that she does it in a funny way doesn’t diminish the struggle, at least I don’t think so :)

7. What kind of heroes do you like?

Okay, I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for the good guy! I know, I know—that’s not the normal response. Obviously, I love indulging in a bad boy or two (or three or four…). They’re so different from any man I would date in real life, and vicariously experiencing the dangers without any of the consequences is sort of awesome—unless there’s no happily ever after, and then my heart just feels ripped out for no reason!

Okay…back to the topic! But really, I have a soft spot for the good guys! Why can’t the knight in shining armor actually be a knight in shining armor? Sometimes, the nice guy who treats the girl right is sexy as hell—in real life for sure, but in literature too! But maybe I’m just biased because I’m about to get married to one :)

8. If your sweetheart wanted to sweep you off your feet, what would they need to do?

Well, my fiancé right now does a pretty good job at that :) I’m all about European vacations and lavish gifts, but really, the little things count the most to me. Saying ‘I love you’ all the time and without hesitation. Buying me flowers for no reason. Cooking dinner and supplying some nice wine on a random Tuesday night. Folding my laundry because I fell asleep while they were drying and he didn’t want to wake me up. Small gestures add up to a lot more than one grand gesture could ever mean, at least to me!

9. What project are you working on now?

Too many! At least, if the many emails from fans demanding to know when the next book in one of my series comes out is anything to go by :) Over the summer, I’m working to finish my young adult epic fantasy series, A Dance of Dragons—one novel and two novellas to go! And then for NaNoWriMo, I’m going to tackle either the sequel in the Confessions Series—Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend!—or the sequel in my series of dystopian fairy tale retellings, Once Upon A Curse. There’s not enough time in the day to get all my ideas out as quickly as I’d like!

10. Last but not least, top ten snacks while writing!

Ooh, only ten? But snacking is one of my writer’s block reliefs… :) Okay, here goes!

Coffee
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Kisses
Diet Coke
Frozen Pineapple Slices
Frozen Mango Slices
Popcorn
Fudgsicles
Starbursts
Apples
And, okay, coffee again! I’m a bit of an addict!

Thanks for stopping by.

{Details} eARC, 384 pages. Published March 31st 2015 by Forever. Source: ebook provided via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

{Rating} 4/5 - I really liked it!

{Review}
A satisfying conclusion to the Dean Brothers' stories, full of excitement, surprises, passion and danger.
I loved Jory. In the previous books we've seen through the other brother's memories that Jory is a sweet guy, the heart of the Dean family, and he still is. He's also smart, cunning, huge and built, willing to do anything for the people he loves - willing to kill and die, and the way he loves - totally and completely. He's an awesome alpha hero.
Although I liked her Piper wasn't my favorite of the Dean brother's girls. She's loyal - to a fault, stubborn - again to a fault, and for a brilliant computer genius she's really quite blind. I did understand why she was so determined, and wasn't that a surprise, but with so much evidence in front of her it took her a while to come to her senses.
As expected Total Surrender is full of suspense and thrills, shock and awe, bullets, explosions, good guys with their girls, and bad guys getting what they deserve. While it is the last story of the four Dean brothers Total Surrender leaves the door open for more stories in this world, and I sincerely hope to read more.
